Major project: Motivation speech research

In this blog, I would like to talk about my research in the field of motivational speech for my major project for the University. I've done several different types of research to find the best one and create my perfect motivational speech for a two - to two-and-a-half-minute video. I analyzed several videos to find the best option and ideas. Among the videos used: a Speech by Steve jobs for Stanford graduates in 2005, a speech by Les brown at one of his speeches, and the usual motivational video clip that looks identical to what I would like to do for my project.

The first video viewed for speech analysis was a speech by Steve jobs. Steve used stories from his own life to highlight the main idea at the end of each of them, which would motivate the student to their future achievements. One of the problems with implementing a speech similar to this one is its duration, which lasts more than 15 minutes. And the main problem is that the speaker in my video is not Steve jobs, but an ordinary student who has no experience and can not have an authoritative opinion among those who will listen to my video material. This is confirmed by my survey, which I created and asked several questions of interest to students from my University. I received twelve responses and almost all said that they would not be interested in hearing stories from other students unless that student is more or less well-known or successful.

Analyzing this, I realized that telling stories in my motivational video would not be the best idea, because the audience would not be interested. However, I can use a quote from his speech or, alternatively, give his life as an example, because he is a very well-known person for the world community.

The following was the speech of the Forest brown. From a fairly long video, I liked the type of speech and thinking he used. First of all, one of the main points of the entire speech is that its listeners should take full responsibility for what happens to them in bad times. In his opinion, a person should not blame someone else for their failures, because this makes them weak and inconspicuous. Secondly, he speaks very well, because he has a trained speech. his every word is clearly audible and understandable. The vocabulary does not use super-complex words. For example, after listening to most of the video, I never caught myself thinking that I don't understand what he is saying. In addition, he has a good balance in the voice level, he does not speak too loudly or too quietly. I really liked it and wanted to have a similar voice for my motivational speech. First, I would motivate people by explaining to them that their problems are their responsibility and they have to solve them themselves. Secondly, I would like to speak the same way as him - at a medium pace, articulate and distinct, and also have a balance between quiet and loud. This is the most pleasant speech to listen to.

The latest video for my research doesn't have a famous speaker behind it and is similar to what I would like to explain in my video. I like this video very much because it is well structured and has a speech that is somewhat similar to the hearing of Les brown. One of the important ideas that is implemented in this video is a quote. As I stated earlier, if the speaker is not famous or successful, then his words will not be taken very seriously, but when quotes from famous people are added to the speech, the speech becomes more affirmative. This is exactly the positive point that I would like to add to my motivational video clip.

Reflection:
Summing up the above, I have a better understanding of what motivational speech should look like in my motivational video clip. First, no personal stories and long speeches, because the audience will not be interested in listening to this performance of "Noname". Secondly, to strengthen your point of view, you can use a quote from famous personalities. As an example, this could be a quote from Steve jobs or Les brown from the videos that were analyzed in this blog. Third, I need to make the audience think about themselves and make them take responsibility for their actions. Viewers should understand that there are no unsolvable problems and it is better to do something than not to do anything. Finally, it concerns speech, since it should be articulate and easy to understand. In the video clips used above, well-known and educated speakers practically did not use difficult-to-understand text. Their speech was cut off in a language that everyone could understand. I plan to use this knowledge to write a new motivational speech.
