Research on Sketchbook

In this blog, I will write about what a sketchbook is for and how it is used by professionals using their examples.

A sketchbook is a drawing album where initial ideas are collected.  Sketchbook can be used for a variety of purposes and in a variety of areas. For example, back in the 16th century, the famous Italian Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo used sketches for his works.  At the same time, he always had his unsuccessful attempts on one sheet, which he improved over time. Once such advice I received from my teacher, who showed us just the same developments of Michelangelo, in her opinion, this method can help and pass the time.

In the modern world, sketches are often used in movies. For example, one of the most famous Directors of our time - James Cameron, used his experience to create world-famous character designs, and one of these was the Terminator. The image below shows one of the scenes from the original 1984 film. This example resembles a storyboard that shows the Director's vision and how they think the film should be made.

From the moment I got to De Montfort University, I often said that drawing is one of my weakest abilities, because in school I ignored these classes. For this reason, sketchbook drawing is one of the things that I would like to learn during the time that I will study there. I hope this goes well.
