Character Profile (Major Project Research #1)

In my previous work on screenwriting, I have already done some research that will help me better understand this or that aspect of screenwriting in the future. Therefore, if I conduct similar research, it will look at least strange, and at most I will not be able to improve and expand my knowledge in the field of script writing. As a result, I realized that I need to find new interesting things that will help me in the future.

My first research, which is probably not new, but one in which I would like to improve, is the character profile. As you can see from my previous blogs, when I wrote the plan for my previous scenario, it didn't look very good at all. Largely because I had 5 characters that I painted quite superficially, but even that stood out and looked out of place in mine. As a result, the idea of writing a separate profile for a character looks much more interesting and structurally correct than writing all the huge information at once in one small file on Milanote (especially if you do not want to pay for expanding the framework).

For example, I decided to take an example from milanote on writing a character profile, since I will use this service to make my profile.

This example shows a pretty good profile that I would like to parse and discuss what I would add and what I would remove.

The first thing I would remove is the photo, after all, I only write the script, so it would be difficult to talk about who would play this role, since it is still very early to talk about shooting a film based on my script. You could add your own photo, but I do not think that I and the character in my script are similar, moreover, the main character is a collective image of several people.
The second in the example is a profile with basic information about age, city, parents, and life highlights. As I am sure, this information is quite necessary, as small details of the character. The only thing that I would remove is the family tree, I very much doubt that you should spend time on it, in a short film about a teenager who needs to pass an exam.
The third column describes the character's appearance. As I am sure, this information is necessary for my work, because a potential producer will be able to immediately better represent the character. This also applies to the average person who is interested in my work.
The columns that are located at the bottom, I would like to combine into one in this description, since they contain secondary information that is necessary depending on the character. For my own character, I think it is very important to write about his Hobbies and personal qualities, as the script will put some emphasis on this. I also think that it is important to write about the character exactly what it is before the events in the script.

  1. This is a good starting point, and the template from Milanote is very useful, but more development is needed. Your research should draw on a variety of sources. Include examples of character profiles that work well or could be improved and discuss these with critical commentary and evaluation. What can you learn from them? How does this inform your own work?
